Preserving, advancing, and disseminating knowledge of the Koshkonong Prairie

Koshkonong Prairie Historical Society

Who are we?

The Koshkonong Prairie covers approximately 144 square miles and is located primarily in southeastern Dane County, Wisconsin. The first European settlers to the area were predominantly of Norwegian descent and the Koshkonong settlement became known as “Queen of the Norwegian Settlements.”

Koshkonong Prairie Historical Society (KPHS) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the people, churches, businesses, schools, and other places on the Koshkonong Prairie. KPHS’s collection highlights key figures, traditional artwork, and history on the settlement. KPHS also has a collection of genealogically useful reference material.
